How many sets of stripes is too many for men? (ie. tie, shirt, suit)? - shirt and tie sets

Personally, I think, more than 2 sets of tapes in a while man takes on a suit. My BF says its okay if all the bands are different, and supports this with the blessing of the guru of style. I personally think it looks so much to do with a striped tie, shirt and suit! Thoughts?
